A PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE BAWKU CONCERNED MOSHIE YOUTH, ON THE UNWARRANTED KILLINGS OF MOSHIES IN BAWKU
Date: …../01/2022.\
Good morning to you ladies and gentlemen of the press, the media and all protocol observed. We welcome you all to the Moshie Naba Palace and all those listening and watching us from afar, we thank you all.
We called on you today to register certain happenings that are of grave concern to the Bawku Concerned Moshie Youth. These happenings are greatly affecting the very peaceful co-existence that bonded us together as one people with a common destiny to develop Bawku into a great commercial town that all of us can benefit from without any hindrance.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, on the 27th December 2021, the Mamprusis in Bawku decided to perform the traditional funeral rites of the late Naa Tampuri Adam Zangbeo of Bawku. As a result of this decision, there were sporadic gunshots all over amidst the performance of the funeral. These gunshots were all over the Bawku municipality which according to securities were gunshots exchanges between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis. Accordingly, it was further reported that the Kusasis was vehemently protesting the decision to perform the funeral of the Late Naa Tampuri Adam Zangbeo which led to the gunshots exchanges.
Historically, the Moshies are descendants of Naa Gbewaa but had never been involved in this armed protracted conflict between the Mamprusis and the Kusasi’s. The Moshies had strived previously and will continue to implore on both factions to allow peace a chance in the Municipality and rather use the constitutional stipulated means in resolving any grievances relative to the Chieftaincy dispute in Bawku.
It must be noted that the Moshies are just like any other minority tribe in the Bawku Municipality who had tried to stay away from taking sides in the conflict. For peace to prevail, it will be the role that the Moshie Development Association coupled with other important stakeholders will play that will lead to that desired goal.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, in these recent skirmishes in Bawku, the Moshies have recorded some unwarranted deaths following this renewed clash between the Kusasis and the Mamprusis.
To start with, on the 28th December 2021, a group of Kusasi armed men stormed the compound of Mr. Awudu Osman, a Moshie man at Daduri to kill him. When they realized that Mr. Awudu Osman was not around, they shot and killed his wife right in front of their daughter who witnessed the gruesome murder of her mother, to server as a danger signal to Mr Awudu. As we speak, we are told that the Bawku Police Division is still investigating this gruesome murder, but NO ONE has been arrested concerning this murder.
As if that is not enough, again on the 3rd of January 2022, another Moshie man by the name Mr. Tijani Abdul Rahman a driver by profession who hails from Sabon-Zongo, a suburb of Bawku was killed at Bazua (Ambrose) market, on his way to Tamale by some group of Kusasi armed hooligans, according to the only surviving victim in the vehicle. Also, this murder as we speak is still unresolved and NO ONE has been arrested in connection with this incident.
Additionally, on the 4th of January 2022, another Moshie man by the name Mr. Awudu Kareem popularly known as Baba Awudu Welder, who is the second Vice-chairman of the Moshie Development Association (BUD YELLE) attended a funeral in Zongo, a suburb of Bawku where he was shot dead by some other Kusasi bandits at the funeral ground.
The most recent killing happened on the 23rd January 2022, where two Moshie men namely Mr. Taiban Kundiima and Mr. Seidu Alhassan Bagaya alias Babsey were killed at their usual local forex bureau exchange base, where they transact their businesses. by two Kusasi armed men who came out from a (Mahama can do) tricycle, dressed in black and drived back through Daduri after the shooting. These two men killed, were out trying to earn a living to take care of their families and their communities but met their untimely death. Why are Moshies being targeted in these renewed clashes in the Bawku conflict? what have we done to deserve these unwanted killings? We, therefore, wish to condemn these heinous crimes and unwarranted killings of innocent persons and call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to do same.
It must be noted that in all these killings, NOBODY has been arrested in connection with these gruesome murders. This recent unfortunate development has made the Moshie Community scared and confused. The question that baffles everyone mind is who is targeting Moshies and what crime have we committed to deserve these targeted killings.? We will continue to prevail upon both factions to give peace a chance since its resultant effect is unquantifiable.
We again wish to inform the general public that, in all that is happening to the Moshies in this recent conflict, we have received and listened to several voice audio recordings, threatening the lives of Moshies by the Kusasis and other contradictory press releases and voice audio recordings from other tribes more especially the Kusasis, purporting to be speaking for us and inciting us against the Mamprusis. We thank them for their efforts; however, we wish to state categorically that, we need no other tribe to release a press statement or make any voice audio on our behalf (the Moshies). We are capable of handling our affairs and want to caution the Moshie communities not to take these audio recordings and press releases by the Kusasis seriously, it should be treated with the greatest contempt it deserves.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, on this note, we are grateful to the security agencies for their swift actions and the level of professionalism in handling this unfortunate skirmish in Bawku and wish to commend them for their good works, we further wish to appeal to them to please broaden and fast-track their investigations and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crimes to book.
In conclusion, we entreat the Government and all stakeholders to help bring a lasting solution to this chieftaincy issue in Bawku in order to put an end to this unfortunate loss of innocent lives and properties.
Thank you all for coming.
Long live the Moshie Communities in Bawku.
Long live Bawku.
Long live Ghana.
